Re: The Chronicles of Sebastian J. Reynolds
Quickly regaining his sight Reynolds observed that a 20 yard area had been blasted to ashen stumps, nothing bigger than insects survived.
***
Peering up out of the hollow, McMasters wiped ash and dust from his goggles, he cautiously stood allowing the woman out from under the shield of his body. "Well awl be damned" he muttered
***
Sam sensed their elation might be short lived, as he pivoted the ship he observed the underside of the cloud bank turn golden red with the approaching dawn, as the light shone through the night clouds it sillouetted the bulk of the etherclad descending.
'These shitheads really mean business!' he grimaced

Re: The Chronicles of Sebastian J. Reynolds
Reynolds glanced around quickly.
Good, no one close by, he thought.
Pulling his communicator from his pocket he flipped open the brass cover and turned the dials.
Although the call was answered no image appeared on the misty green screen.
"have you any idea of the bloody time?" came the hoarse, gruff response. "Who the tarnations is it?"
"Staff, it's Seb. Don't speak! I'm in a spot of bother"
A grunt that sort of said "yeh, of course, what's new?" sounded over the speaker but Reynolds ignored the quip.
"The train the McMasters was on has been attacked. I'm here now with Sam but can't get to his lordship, too many bad guys and we're heavily outgunned. There's the queen's barracks nearby in Perth. I need you to get hold of someone and get a squadron of troops dispatched. The enemy have some pretty heavy gunships and armour."
He paused, thinking quickly, then added a little white lie. "I think they're Germans!"
"Bloody hell! Damned Hun will pay for attacking on our soil! An attack on a peer is an attack on the Queen herself! Outrageous!"
"Great, give them my contact details, and Sam's, he's airborne and don't want them shooting the wrong thing. Right, I have to go."
"Third time, Reynolds!" Colonel von Staffenberg grumbled before hanging up.
