Emerson/Benn’s eyes shot open with confusion and shock.

‘Bloody hell!’ He bellowed in fright and flinched violently away from the voice and fell backwards out of the dishevelled bed with a thump on the wooden floor.

As he struggled to rise, his mind played back and considered what it had seen. The first thing that the Benn felt and then realised is that the Emerson persona seemed to be gaining dominance over his psyche; maybe a side effect of his departure into the other worlds. His memory seemed more fragmented, similar to a normal human’s memory of a dream. Strangely it didn’t seem to bother him, and in truth he welcomed it. He and the Emerson persona were one, and maybe this was the final stage of him making a binding to a true ‘existence’.

He embraced it, and pushed the Benn’s ebbing power to the back of his mind. It was the outsider.

Ernest peered above the corner of the bed; squinting painfully in the general direction where the voice had come from.

‘Who is it? Get me a bloody drink man!’ he growled in angry irritation.

(21:19:06) arcanus: The slight man who stood at the end of Emersons bed started at the angry greeting, the floating mechanised eye rotated as if focusing. <I'm afraid that won'tbe possible sir, there has been an untoward occurrence and your attention is required>

(21:22:01) (Ernest): Ernest audibly groaned as the metallic voice grated through his head. 'Blast the both of you!' he swore as he banged his fists on the bolster of the bed to gain a purchase on the swirling room.

(21:22:35) (Ernest):
He attempts to get up.

(21:22:42) ChatBot: (Ernest)
rolls 3d6 and gets 3,5,5.

(21:23:45) arcanus:
<I wouldn't worry sir> the mechanical Butler chirped to the ships orderly <This is fairly mild for his usual post exuberance>

(21:24:25) (Ernest):
'Yes, thank you Willie.....' he mutters as he slides to the floor again

(21:24:46) arcanus:
(Roll 3D?)

(21:25:00) (Ernest):
'Just get me a bloody glass of water please.'

(21:25:05) ChatBot: (Ernest) rolls 3d6 and gets 4,3,1.

(21:29:23) arcanus: From outside the Vortex Benn felt the flow of the scape, the interconnection of dozens of sleepers who's subconscious fears, hopes, ideas and imagination fuelled the ship and all who sailed upon her, he allowed himself to once again grow whoozy and sink back into the vortex and Emerson.

(21:33:13) (Ernest)
vomits loudly from behind the bed mercifully away from the eyes of the orderly.

(21:33:44) (Ernest):
'And a cloth and bleach, if you please' he adds shakily.

(21:35:05) (Ernest)
the wooden boards creak as he crawls from the other side of the bed.

(21:35:57) (Ernest) And stands up, using what dignity he had left to brush himself off.

(21:37:58) (Ernest):
'What demands my attention Harry?' He asks the orderly, turning his blood shot eyes to him.

(21:40:48) arcanus: "I was told not to divulge the nature of the incident due to prying ears sir" Harry replies

(21:44:18) (Ernest): 'Damn yer eyes man!' I'm sure that Willie won't say a word'. he exclaims as the automaton glides in with his glass of water from the bathroom. 'Will you?' he asks Willie pointedly as he takes the glass from him.

(21:44:53) arcanus: <I am motified you have even had to ask sir>

(21:45:40) (Ernest)
grunts with acknowledgement.

(21:46:15) (Ernest): 'See?!' 'Out with it man!' he exclaims croakily.

(21:46:30) arcanus: "Sir we must make haste the matter is most delicate"

(21:47:32) (Ernest): 'Gah!' he grunts in disgust and hobbles into the bathroom. 'I'll be right out!'

(21:47:53) (Ernest)
slams the door to the bathroom.

(21:48:05) arcanus:
With that Harry withdraws to outside the cabin

(21:48:26) (Ernest): A large drawn out fart echoes out into the bedroom.

(21:48:57) (Ernest): 'Jesus!' he exclaims in disgust.

(21:58:19) (Ernest): The cabin door opens, and Ernest steps out.

(21:59:47) (Ernest) stares questioningly at the orderly.

(22:00:03) (Ernest):
'Well Harry?'

(22:02:25) (Ernest): He was hurting inside, but being an old campaigner had managed to master bare facing hangovers and other self induced ailments from the general public.

(22:03:17) (Ernest): But God, it only seemed to get worse as he got older.

(22:05:19) (Ernest): His head was in turmoil, he was certain that he had got so drunk that he had he distinct feeling that he had thought he was somebody else.

(22:06:15) (Ernest): Drinking himself 'out of the box' rather than sober was a frightening thought.

(22:06:39) (Ernest): Maybe it was time to pack it in?

(22:06:49) arcanus:
"Ah yes this way sir" and with that Harry hurries off at a pace

(22:08:27) (Ernest)
Follows Harry at a more sedate pace, occasionally staggering subtly to the left and right.

(22:12:09) (Ernest): But it was dashed good fun! He thought with a smile.

(22:12:43) (Ernest): 'Where are we off to man?' he exclaimed. 'Is it far?'

(22:12:58) arcanus: They negotiated the wood panelled corridors and brass cage elevators until arriving many many floors above, as Emerson lurched around the corner he noted a large gathering of people outside a cabin door

(22:14:27) (Ernest): 'Ah..' he muttered to Harry quietly. 'So can you tell me now?'

(22:16:54) arcanus: "There has been a murder sir" Harry whispers quietly

(22:21:46) (Ernest): 'Either that, or a bally soiree I wasn't invited to' he quipped in his usual bad taste.

(22:22:28) (Ernest):
He paused, and rubbed his moustache.

(22:23:09) (Ernest):
'Was I speaking in a Cornish accent last night?' he asked himself aloud.

(22:24:19) (Ernest): 'No matter' he discarded the thought. 'Now, who is it.... was it?' he asked.

(22:24:40) arcanus: Emerson recognised Lawrence Grayson peer through the throng and then hurriedly beckon him over

(22:26:00) (Ernest): 'Thankyou Harry, that will be all. Chin chin chap. I'll get to the bottom of it don'tcha worry!' he said attempting to cheer the man up.

(22:27:29) (Ernest): 'Don't forget to top up the brandy in the cabin eh?' he winked at the orderly, and made his way over to Grayson.

(22:28:54) (Ernest): As he did he raised his hand to his mouth and blew into it; wincing as the smell of last nights Very Special Old Pale assailed his nostrils.

(22:30:06) (Ernest): 'Lawrie! How goes it?' he asks amiably.

(22:31:52) arcanus: The hard pressed orderly's pushed the throng back, Lawrie scowled "Not bloody well, like something from a Penny Dreadful and frightfully predictable" he replied

(22:33:04) (ooc): who is Grayson?

(22:33:22) arcanus: (Government man)

(22:33:39) (ooc): Ah ok.

(22:34:05) arcanus: "Gracious man you were knocking them back last night"

(22:36:54) (Ernest): 'Auld lang syne, my dear chap! Auld lang syne! Pity that goodwill fades so quickly eh? he sighs.

(22:37:54) (Ernest):
'You we're holding back either' he points out

(22:41:31) arcanus: "Very true" Lawrie replies as you step into the cabin, the large state room showed signs of slight disarray although not burglary, the victim was a an older lady still dressed in her high coloured aubergine spinsters dress

(22:45:02) arcanus:
"Lady Enid Turbury, her husband met a similar fate" Lawrie gestures to an adjacent bedroom

(22:46:21) (Ernest): 'Any chance we can thin the crowd out Lawrie?' he winces in pain and irritation as the boisterous and loud shocked voices assailed his hangover. 'But can you get the orderlies to get a list of all the people who are out there? It may prove useful for our investigations.

(21:32:26) (Dreamweaver): 21:05:14) arcanus: Lawrie frowns and with a flick of his hand the orderlies start to herd the gawkers out of the stateroom

(21:09:5 (Ernest): 'Still in their New Years attire I see.' He muses.

(21:10:46) (Ernest):
'Oh, by the way. Happy New Year old boy.' he offers his hand to Lawrie.

(21:17:20) arcanus: The government man looks pensively around the room, then absently regards you "Oh of course Happy New Year!"

(21:20:32) (Ernest): 'So what do we have here exactly?' he asks as he lowers his hand slowly and looks around.

(21:33:13) (Dreamweaver): (21:22:06) ChatBot: (Ernest) rolls 3d6 and gets 6,3,6.

(21:28:49) (Dreamweaver): The older lady is contorted into a curled up position, her hands twisted into claw like shapes, her face frozen into a rictus

(21:30:0 (Dreamweaver): The room appears in mild disarray although not burgled

(21:34:55) (Ernest): 'I take it this has only been recently discovered?'

(21:36:19) (Dreamweaver):
"Around 30 minutes ago, her husbands in the bedroom" he replies gesturing to the adjacent room its door slightly ajar

(21:36:31) (Dreamweaver):
(Roll 3d?)

(21:36:42) ChatBot: (Ernest) rolls 3d6 and gets 1,5,4.

(21:43:47) (Ernest): 'Who discovered it?' Ernest nudges the door open with his elbow to the adjacent room, and looks inside.

(21:49:53) (Dreamweaver): "Orderly arrived with their evening refreshments and pills!"

(21:51:21) (Ernest): 'Evening!' he exclaimed; he looking back at the government man.

(21:51:56) (Ernest): 'So I take it the alarm was raised immediately?'

(21:56:07) (Dreamweaver): Lawrie turns and disdainfully regards the throng who have now been pushed back down the corridor "Stupid arse screamed the entire ship down!"

(21:56:43) (Ernest) looks at his watch

(21:57:28) (Ernest): 'Where is this orderly?'

(21:57:37) (Dreamweaver): The hands have stopped

(21:59:13) (Ernest) Raises his eyebrows in irritation and attempts to wind the pocketwatch up.

(22:01:02) (Ernest) he glances up to where he would guess there would be a clock on the wall or the bed tables.

(22:01:52) (Dreamweaver): Each has stopped

(22:03:02) (Ernest): 'Lawrie, old chap.' he asks again patiently. 'Where is the orderly who discovered this? I take it in the infirmary?'

(22:04:07) (Ernest): <what time does it look like they both stopped?>

(22:04:08) (Dreamweaver): "Sorry old man, bit defuddled, yes secured in the infirmary"

(22:04:31) (Dreamweaver):
<One minute previously>

(22:06:15) (Dreamweaver): You notice wisps of a greasy grey mist drift out of the bedroom

(22:06:30) (Ernest):
'No bother. Its a trying time for us all. My bally head feels like its going to fall off too! What time do you make it?'

(22:06:49) (Ernest): <In which direction?>

(22:07:04) (Ernest): <into the room we are in?>

(22:07:17) (Ernest): <Is there a smell to it?>

(22:08:00) (Dreamweaver): <From the adjacent bedroom, yes into the stateroom>

(22:12:56) (Dreamweaver): "So Ernest what's your initial thoughts?"

(22:13:38) (Ernest): 'I must be talking to myself' he mutters irritably as he steps carefully into the bedroom. 'Can you send someone to get my canvas case from my room?' he asks loudly.

(22:15:21) (Ernest): 'Can you come in here Lawrie please?'

(22:20:44) (Dreamweaver): An equally old man lays strewn across the grand bed, similarly twisted in pain, however vapour drifts off his body, Lawrie steps into the bedroom

(22:21:46) (Ernest): <is there a smell given off from the vapour?>

(22:22:06) (Ernest): 'What time do you make it?' he asks.

(22:25:03) (Dreamweaver): <A smell a little like engine oil> "Just after 3 in the morning" Lawrie replies

(22:25:40) (Ernest): <what time does my watch state>

(22:27:13) (Dreamweaver): <Midnight>

(22:27:42) (Ernest): <and what time did the room clocks state?>

(22:28:23) (Dreamweaver): <Midnight>

(22:30:29) (Ernest): 'Well, my first impressions are pretty confusing to be perfectly honest. I'll need my bag to conduct a technique which is still in its infancy'.

(22:31:11) (Ernest): 'A technique called 'post incident analysis''

(22:31:43) (Dreamweaver): An orderly appears with your bag

(22:33:01) (Ernest): 'Ah! Thankyou. Can I please ask that no one else set foot in this state room now?'

(22:33:59) (Ernest): 'Lawrie, can you please question the orderly who discovered this incident? I need the information he holds.'

(22:36:43) (Dreamweaver): "Yes of course" he appears quite relieved and exits the room

(22:40:36) (Ernest): 'Poor chap' he muttered as he opened his suit jacket and pulled out a small flask and proceeded to take a deep gulp of brandy.

(22:43:18) (Ernest): 'Ahh!' he sighed in satisfaction, as he visibly relaxed in the company of himself.

(22:46:15) (Ernest): Taking the canvas bag back to the main room, he placed it in a clear space on the carpet proceeded to unzip the sides of it. The bag unfolded concertina like and revealed numerous strange tools.

(22:46:40) (Ernest) drags the bag open to its full state.

(22:48:19) (Ernest): considered his arsenal and began by pulling out a pair of thin silk gloves and putting them on.

(22:50:00) (Ernest): pulls out a notepad and pencil and considers the scene thus far.

(22:51:10) (Ernest): Search roll of..............

(22:51:19) ChatBot: (Ernest) rolls 3d6 and gets 3,3,1.

(22:55:15) (Dreamweaver): This room appears less disrupted and curiously the man appears more peaceful in his repose

(22:56:46) (Ernest): <Does there seem to be any other incidents that seem to be abnormal in the room besides naturally the bodies and the clocks stopping?

(22:57:33) (Ernest): begins to mutter to himself and mutters incessantly his findings...

(22:59:48) (Ernest): 'Clocks seem to have stopped at precisely the same time... including mine.... two fatalites... husband and wife... initial findings could be related to a poisoning.... possible suicide?

(23:00:45) (Ernest): 'Tis the season!' he murmurs as he places the notepad in his pocket and moves towards the woman.

(23:02:45) (Ernest): He leans forward in a way that doesn't disturb the woman or the bed and smells her breath (or invariably the lack of it) is there any strange smells besides the oily one?

(23:04:05) (Ernest): Observation roll....

(23:04:07) (Dreamweaver): Only the smell of stale food <Its a man on the bed>, curiously the man appears familiar in some way..

(23:04:11) ChatBot: (Ernest) rolls 3d6 and gets 2,1,2.

(23:04:55) (Ernest): <Ah, so where is the woman situated?>

(23:06:06) (Ernest): <Familiar? I'll roll IQ...>

(23:06:07) (Dreamweaver): <On the floor of the stateroom>

(23:06:23) ChatBot: (Ernest) rolls 3d6 and gets 6,5,6.

(23:06:39) (Ernest): <hmm, maybe not..>

(23:08:11)(Dreamweaver):The ship shudders from some form of turbulence, the familiarity is annoying but you cannot place it

See the dark night has come down on us
The world is livin' in its dream
But now we know that we can wake up from this sleep
And set out on the journey
Find a ship to take us on the way.

The time has come to trust that guiding light
And leavin' all the rest behind
We'll take the road that leads down to the waterside
And set out on the journey
Find a ship to take us on the way.

And we'll sail out on the water
Yes we'll feel the sea grow
Yes we'll meet out on the water
Where are all strangers are known.

If you travel blindly, if you fall
The truth is there to set you free
And when your heart can see just one thing in this life
We'll set out on the journey
Find a ship to take us on the way.

And we'll sail out on the water
Yes we'll feel the sea grow
Yes we'll meet out on the water
Where are all strangers are known.

See the dark night has come down on us
The world is livin' in its dream
But now we know that we can wake up from this sleep
And set out on the journey
Find a ship to take us on the way.

And we'll sail out on the water
Yes we'll feel the sea grow
Yes we'll meet out on the water
Where are all strangers are known.
