Re: FALLOUT
FO4
The buzzing alarm was a shrill screech in the early morning . The man reached blindly for the clock and flicked the switch over, silencing the infernal device.
He rolled over onto his back and stared up at the ceiling, focussing on a loose panel..
He sighed, that was something else he was going to have to fix.
A sweet scent wafted over him and he turned his head towards the source.
Eleanora McQueen, Nora, his wife, glanced at him and smiled.
He sniffed at her hair. “That new shampoo smells good,” he said.
“That's the first thing you want to say to me this morning; nice shampoo?”
He laughed, propping himself up and leaning over to kiss her.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and returned the kiss deeply.
He could feel her breasts pressing against his chest. His hand found her waist and then the small of her back.
A small cry from another room interrupted the clinch.
“It's your turn,” Nora chuckled.
The man laughed again, certain that it wasn't but he climbed out of bed, slipped a pair of shorts on and headed for their baby son's bedroom.
Nora watched her husband leave, noting the toned physique, his not so military haircut; long but not shoulder length, more like a surfer. In fact, with the heavy stuble beard scruff going on her could pass for a surfer.
She also noted the scars. White blemishes on his tanned skin. Some came from bullets, others from knives and on his left shoulder blade a burn scar. Her husband had returned from war but it had left its mark.
Captain Lincoln McQueen, once of the United States Army Rangers, walked up to his son's cot. “Hey Shaun,” he said reaching out and picking up the child. “Daddy's here.”
The boy immediately calmed down.
Linc placed his little finger at the boy's mouth and he began sucking on it.
“Honey, Shaun's hungry,” he called back into the master bedroom.
“Alright, I'm coming,” Nora called back, climbing out of bed and padding softly across the hallway without bothering to dress.
“It's okay, Miss Nora, I'll attend to the little one for you,” came the slightly metallic and distinctly British accent of Codsworth, their General Atomics 'Mr Handy' robot butler.
Its spherical body hovered into the boy's bedroom, the small thruster jet underneath roaring quietly.
It had three articulated arms with multiple attachments that enabled it to perform many of the mundane tasks around th home.
Such robots were expensive, but Linc's war bonus had paid for it. He had decided that with him still serving in the army, and his wife pregnant with Shaun, that she could use the additional help.
Despite the robot's offer, Nora still followed it into the nursery.
“Mum really out to put some clothes on,” Codsworth admonished, disapproval quite obvious in his voice.
“I'm comfortable like this, thank you, Codsworth. And it is okay, I'll feed him this morning,” she said as she sat in the chair located beside her son's crib and reaching up for Shaun.
“Yeah, shut up Codsworth!” Linc grinned as he handed his son over.
Nora took him and he latched on straight away.
“Ooh, someone's hungry!”
She looked up to Linc's grinning mug.
“Shut you door on the way out, Lincoln!” She barked. “And you Codsworth!”
The house robot gave a few embarrassed noises before its thruster roared louder and it floated out of the room.
Linc paused, smiling at his wife. He wondered hw he had managed to bag such a stunning woman. Her dark skin like strong coffee with a dash of milk.
“Get out!” she giggled, at her husband's obvious lecherousness. She deliberately turned her attention to her son, more to hide her own smile than in any real annoyance.
Lincoln sighed and left the room.

Re: FALLOUT
“Miss Nora,” Codsworth's metallic English voice sounded from the kitchen area. “What time is sir returning home?
“I think the VA open evening rehearsal is due to finish at four. So give him an hour to drive home, five then.”
“Very well, mum.”
Nora folded the last of the ironing and placed it in the drawer unit beside their bed.
She always liked to get the ironing done when Shaun was having his afternoon sleep and Linc was out of the house.
Her husband didn't like her doing those chores since they'd bought Codsworth, but she wasn't one for sitting around filing her nails and gossiping with the neighbours.
She wondered how Linc would be feeling. He was going to be speaking to the Veterans Association down at Veteran's Hall tomorrow night and today was the final rehearsal.
Lincoln had been working on his speech for weeks and was uncharacteristically nervous about giving it.
She had heard him practising and thought it was excellent.
The two tone chime from the doorbell announced a visitor. The wall clock said it was quarter past three in the afternoon.
The visitor was a jolly face red haired man from Vault-Tec who was looking to get hold of Linc. He had already been once a day for the past week trying to get hold of him.
He gave a pleasant smile when she informed him that Linc wasn't there and wandered back to the van parked at the kerb with the Vault Tec logo on the side.
Nora wondered why they were so desperate to get hold of Linc? He didn't have any connection to the nation-wide company that built massive complexes and bunkers underground in which to house people in the event of nuclear attack.
It disgusted her a little that the huge corporation was functioning on the back of people's fear. Of course, the war with China had helped fuel that fear and indeed brought the prospect of such an event ever more possible.
But America had successfully repelled China's invasion of Alaska, and although tensions were still high, she thought the prospect of all out nuclear war was probably off the table again.
The more pressing matters now seemed to be the lack of food and basic amenities for many of the more deprived areas throughout the United States. Sky high oil prices were driving up inflation and the price of most basic goods, which included bread, milk and the other essentials.
Nora thanked God that both she and Linc were in steady jobs that paid well. They, at least for now, were coping in the current financial climate.
Codsworth interrupted her thoughts asking if she would like a coffee. Glad of the distraction from her slightly depressing thoughts she accepted.
