Re: IC- Signs of the Underground
Mac's senses picked up a movement of air at the same time as spotting the guard patrol rounding the corner of the roof.
Despite this he was physically pulled from his hiding place, seeming to fly through the shadows.
As he hurtled toward the edge of the roof he saw a tunnel of air spanning the gap between the two rooftops, slightly wide eyed he glanced back at the UCAS troops, both appeared oblivious despite the commotion.
He flew into the tunnel, looking down hundreds of stories he could see the lights of the military base below and quickly arrived on the radio tower roof.
As Hades orientated himself he found himself staring at the inside of a semi translucent dome, rainbow colours swimming around is surface
"Bienvenue Mon ami" came a voice from behind him, a voice laced with a heavy Irish brogue

Mac put a hand out to steady himself, nausea overpowering him. He was never any good on rides or in the passenger seat of a car and to him that little flight was no different.
When the wave passed after a few seconds he then looked in the direction of the voice.

Re: IC- Signs of the Underground
The shadows of the radio tower roof shifted from pitch black to a deep red before revealing a figure.
The man, a male elf wore an indigo suit beneath a thick maroon cloak, a crown of coiffered red hair adorned Celtic features, a mischievous smile on his face.
"Monsieur" he said with a bow, continuing in French
"So for your mission within a mission you will need some help!" with a flourish he produced a cloth roll bound with a leather strap.
He watched as Mac quietly unrolled the contents, it contained three items that appeared to be a set, an ornate ring, a kneck torc and a dagger.
Each was fashioned in a Celtic style from a dull gold or bronze metal and inscribed with glyphs of some form of ancient Gallic.
The elf watched Hades closely, his Irish brogue weighting his French as he continued
<"As you know all too well Mon Ami, remaining hidden is the key, these items have a distant family legacy, they will extend your senses and enhance your anonymity">
The smile slipped from his face, he raised his outstretched palm
<"This I need you to give to The Traveller, it is time for him to understand the tome">
Twisting his hand he handed Hades an auctioneers eyepiece
<"Bon Voyage"> he said as a wind picked up and Mac was transported back through the air tunnel

Re: IC- Signs of the Underground
The following day they prepared, up early equipped, armed and outfitted in heavy security armour, following which they underwent medicals inoculated from the various diseases tgat now haunted the zobe.
Sturrel checked in on them periodically before meeting them at the helipad.
A short hop via chopper took them out to the amphibious carrier UCSS Essex.
Finally they assembled at the ships wharf, Sturrel nodded to the marine commander
"Folks we've got a nice fog, The Jolly Rogers are patrolling but nothing we can't handle, we go in 20, quick and quiet, my team will cover you until you get to the elven ruins and then we're out - questions?"

"Nope," was all the response Mac gave as he stared quietly towards the city hidden in the mist.
He felt Lily's hand slip into his. He squeezed it tight.
"What the fuck are we doing?" Ty asked behind them.
Mac turned to face him. "Really? You question this now?"
Neither of them were being serious. They'd already had this conversation, many times. Somehow, despite all logic telling them to just pack their bags and run in the opposite direction as fast as they could, they still decided to go in.
Whatever was in there drawing them back had better be worth it, they had all commented at one point or another.

Re: IC- Signs of the Underground
The hover Raiders slid out onto Michigan's cold waters, driven by electric motors and shielded by noise dampeners, they were virtually silent.
Like ghosts they raced past a number of speedboats idling in the waters, thick smoke pouring out of them and mingling with the fog.
The marines crouched in readiness, the commander looked back at the three, his goggles covered in spray he gave them a thumbs up, the miles sped away and the shadowy shoreline approached.
As the five Raiders slid up the gravelly lakeshore the marines were already moving, fanning out into a triangular formation, the three had by this time hit the beach and were moving.
The squad jogged West through the wreckage and remnants, crossing the deserted US 41 freeway an occasional muffled retort neutralised a threat, they broke into the south Lincoln Park heading towards the remnants of its Botanical Gardens.
Reaching the grounds they noticed the absence of light, only the ominous silence if night.

Re: IC- Signs of the Underground
Max, was the intention for the three of us to have one item each from what the Frenchman gave Mac, or were they all for him?

Lily nudged Mac and silently indicated the relatively new office buildings off to their left.
“We should hole up in there. I don’t like being out in the open like this at night.”
Hades nodded. He turned to the marine commander.
“LT,” he said quietly. “Let’s eat a roof over our heads. We should keep night time stuff to a minimum if we can. At least until we get a gauge of the place.”
