Ok, I will attempt to connect these strands using my magical energies. I'm thinking that they may connect to each other almost like a spiders web and link up to the satelite like cogs.

I will ask the spirit again for its assistance in this.

I will be using my magic attribute and magic pool.

Is an astral pool now defunct? As It certainly looks tempting now.

Pants. I am sheetless. My folder of sheets has been packed away in the Plymouth DeCluttering of 2008.
I have nothing in electronic form either
But I do have a dice roller!

I'll assume metallurgy of 4
And magic was 6 or 7. Let's say 7.

Metallurgy: 7 6
Magic: 10 9 5 5 5 4 2

And an Intelligence roll as Drake observes the spirit, and observes the spheres.

Both Soldiers of Light stand looking as if with a new pair of eyes, as the tethers and orbiting spheres become visible, as another layer of understanding is revealed they see that the tethers are anchored within some slot like recesses upon the lock face.

Recesses in a similar fashion to those that a control stick within a vehicle would live in, the recesses form a geometric grid within organised squares upon the face.
